Baylor Scott & White Neuroendocrine Tumor Specialists was founded by Yi-Zarn Wang, DDS, MD, FACS. Dr. Wang is board certified in surgery and focuses on the research and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors (NET). A neuroendocrine tumor is a growth of tissue that arise from cells of the endocrine (hormonal) and nervous system. There are many kind of neuroendocrine tumors and some grow slowly while others grow aggressively. Dr. Wang's new innovations, modifications and/or implementations in the operative care of NET patients includes: using lymphatic mapping to define surgical resection margins, preserving the Ileocecal valve whenever possible, deliberated delicate and extensive mesenteric lymph node dissections even for those with vascular encasement of those vessels, parenchymal sparing NET liver metastasis resection/cytoreduction, intra-operative tumor resection bed chemotherapy, adapting radio-guided surgery for NET cytoreduction and second look laparoscopy.
